DIXON, Calif. — Authorities reported a stabbing that took place within the popular Cool Patch Pumpkins corn maze late Friday night, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Sacramento.
Details of the Incident
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 9:15 PM following an altercation among visitors inside the maze. Two individuals—a 19-year-old woman from Dixon and a 20-year-old man from Vallejo—were seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
Response from the Venue
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was apprehended at the scene along with a weapon. The Solano County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
“There was an altercation between some people yesterday in the corn maze,” stated Seth Cooley, a member of the family that operates Cool Patch Pumpkins. “Police were called. They responded really fast.”
In the wake of the incident, the pumpkin patch reopened its doors on Saturday, welcoming families back to its well-known attractions. Cooley emphasized that the violence was an isolated event, reaffirming the venue’s commitment to visitor safety. “We’re a family-oriented pumpkin patch, always have been,” he noted.
Security Measures and Visitor Reactions
The farm is equipped with visible security cameras, and a liability notice is prominently displayed at the entrance. Although security personnel are present, Cooley chose not to disclose specific security protocols at the facility, stating, “I don’t think it’s relevant to what happened.”
Visitors, like Natalie Murphy and Emily Gove, who traveled from San Francisco, expressed their surprise at the incident. They reported feeling secure during their visit and echoed sentiments of concern for the victims. Gove mentioned, “I hope that everyone is doing OK and that maybe some safety measures are taken.”
Looking Ahead
As the investigation progresses, Cooley reassured the public that the pumpkin patch would continue welcoming guests. “This was an isolated incident. It’s a beautiful day. We hope to see you guys out here,” he said. The farm is recognized for having one of the largest corn mazes in the world.
This ongoing situation highlights the importance of ongoing vigilance in ensuring safety measures at family-oriented venues.
