BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF Sees Positive Momentum After SEC’s Approval

On Saturday, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) registered a notable technical indicator known as a golden cross, coinciding with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) decision to allow triple-leveraged Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) products to be listed. This regulatory change could expand the available options for investors in the cryptocurrency space.

Understanding the Golden Cross

Data from Koyfin indicates that IBIT’s 50-day simple moving average (SMA) stood at 41.97, surpassing its 200-day average of 41.92. A golden cross occurs when a shorter-term moving average crosses above a longer-term moving average, which traders often interpret as a bullish signal, suggesting potential upward momentum in the asset.

Increased Inflows into Bitcoin ETFs

October has opened positively for Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), with SoSoValue reporting new inflows totaling $102.67 million on October 1. Among these, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF leads with an impressive inflow of $195.57 million.

This inflow exceeded the overall net inflow for the group, pushing total net assets across spot Bitcoin ETFs to reach $109.34 billion. For the week leading up to October 1, net inflows totaled $51.25 million, showcasing a strong interest from investors.

New Leveraged Cryptocurrency Products Approved

The SEC has also paved the way for a broader array of cryptocurrency products following its approval of a rule change from the Cboe BZX Exchange. This decision permits six new products from Volatility Shares’ VS Trust to be listed, each aiming to deliver three times the daily returns of their respective benchmarks. The offerings will include Bitcoin, Ethereum, as well as various commodities such as gold, silver, crude oil, and natural gas.

Volatility Shares has previously submitted requests to launch leveraged cryptocurrency funds. In its application for the 2x Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITX), the firm indicated that these products seek to track a specified multiple of daily returns, although they caution that long-term performance may diverge from these multiples.

It is important to note that trading in any of these newly approved funds will not commence until their registration is finalized, with specific trading dates yet to be announced.

Market Sentiment and Bitcoin Pricing

At present, Bitcoin is trading around $84,800, reflecting a slight decrease of over 0.2% within the past 24 hours. Market sentiment among retail investors, as seen on platforms like Stocktwits, has shifted to a ‘bearish’ outlook after previously being classified as ‘neutral’. Chatter surrounding Bitcoin has also increased from low to normal levels within the same timeframe.

Conclusion

The recent developments surrounding BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF and the SEC’s regulatory changes signal a potentially evolving landscape for cryptocurrency investments. With increasing inflows and the arrival of leveraged products, market participants will closely monitor how these dynamics affect Bitcoin’s price trajectory and overall market sentiment.
