Tkachuk Brothers Make NHL History in Wild Game
The Florida Panthers’ recent victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets not only marked an essential win for the team but also etched the Tkachuk brothers’ names in NHL history. This encounter showcased the remarkable synergy between Brady and Matthew Tkachuk.
Historic Performance
In the decisive matchup, Brady Tkachuk achieved a remarkable feat by scoring three consecutive goals, each assisted by his brother Matthew. This performance contributed significantly to the Panthers’ 7-3 triumph, and it established Brady as the first player in NHL history to record a natural hat trick with every goal assisted by a sibling.
Significance of the Hat Trick
Brady’s accomplishment did not stop there—he became the ninth player in NHL history to have his brother assist on three goals within a hat trick. The last player to achieve this was Daniel Sedin, whose trio of goals in 2015 was set up by brother Henrik Sedin.
Brady’s third-period goals came in a flash, with the quick succession marking the third-fastest hat trick in franchise history, all accomplished within approximately eight minutes during the second period. This hat trick also marked the first time the Tkachuk brothers combined for a goal since their time with Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Team’s Need for Momentum
Brady’s achievement of a natural hat trick marked him as the eighth player in Panthers history to do so and the first since Matthew Tkachuk accomplished the same feat in 2024. Later in the second period, both brothers assisted Carter Verhaeghe’s goal, with Matthew setting a franchise record for assists in a single period.
Adding to this impressive performance, Matthew also assisted on a goal by Sam Reinhart early in the third period. Notably, this game saw the Tkachuk brothers finish with a combined total of nine points (Matthew’s five assists and Brady’s four points), becoming the first pair of brothers to achieve such a tally since the Sedin twins in 2015.
Overcoming Early Struggles
This notable performance was particularly significant for Brady, who had only recorded one assist in the preceding six games alongside his brother since joining the Panthers. In a post-game interview, Brady expressed, “For sure, felt that pressure… felt like I wasn’t doing my job, and wasn’t good enough, but knew eventually it was going to come.”
Looking Ahead
The Panthers entered this match with some struggles, having lost four of their last five games, compounded by injuries to key players including Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand. With the Panthers’ record at 3-2-2, hope remains that the Tkachuk brothers can maintain their momentum as these critical players recover from injury, which is expected to sideline each for at least a month.
