Cheer for a Cure Unites Oklahoma Teams for a Noble Cause
Event Details
The 12th annual Cheer for a Cure took place on October 18 at the Arvest Convention Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This one-day competition unites school and recreational cheer teams from throughout the state, all dedicated to a common goal: raising funds for breast cancer screening, treatment, and support through the organization Oklahoma Project Woman.
Participant Demographics
Participants primarily include children from kindergarten to 8th grade, reflecting the event’s family-oriented nature. Many of these young athletes are acutely aware of the significance of the event, having personal connections to breast cancer through family or friends.
Insights from Leadership
“We’ve had athletes and coaches go through breast cancer,” said Rachel Hulse, president of the Cheer for a Cure Board. “So, some of them have seen the firsthand impact, and basically the help they can provide.” This personal connection enhances the event’s mission, making participation deeply meaningful for many.
Growing Support and Sponsorship
Hulse noted an increase in participation each year, crediting generous sponsors who support the initiative. In her words, “We give away so many prizes and trophies.” Notable contributors include Kendra Scott and Scheel’s, which have provided items such as necklaces and Owala cups to support the effort.
Looking Ahead
As this year’s event concludes, organizers are already looking forward. Plans for next year’s competition will commence promptly, ensuring that the momentum of the cause continues.
