Call for Clarity: Babafemi Ojudu Challenges Anthony Kila to Verify Academic Credentials

In a recent development, former senator Babafemi Ojudu has requested that Anthony Kila furnish documentary evidence regarding his academic qualifications and professional history. This demand follows a thorough investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, which raised questions about Kila’s claims to a professorship.

Ojudu, a journalist and politician, expressed his surprise at the allegations, highlighting his previous interactions with Kila, whom he has known through a Yoruba cultural association. He remarked on Kila’s dignified contributions during their meetings, making the allegations hard for him to accept.

“I am still trying to compose myself after reading the investigation. The allegations are difficult to believe, given my regard for Mr. Kila and my respect for PREMIUM TIMES,” Ojudu stated.

Request for Evidence

Ojudu emphasized the need for Kila to provide a detailed account of his academic and professional journey. Specifically, he called for:

  • The names of educational institutions attended, along with the respective dates of attendance.
  • Details of qualifications obtained and information about supervisors of his master’s dissertation and doctoral thesis.
  • Information regarding his teaching positions and the process by which he achieved his professorial status.

“Relevant records, publications, and confirmations from the institutions involved would help clarify these concerns,” Ojudu added, noting that testimonies from former educators, classmates, and colleagues could also substantiate Kila’s claims.

Legal Redress and Public Transparency

Ojudu acknowledged Kila’s right to pursue legal action against the allegations. However, he urged Kila to prioritize transparency by offering a documented response that could effectively address the serious issues raised.

“A clear, documented response would go a long way towards answering these allegations and reassuring those of us who hold you in high regard,” Ojudu stated.

The former senator concluded by stressing the importance of presenting factual evidence, stating, “Provide us with the facts and the evidence. Those of us who respect you will then have a firm basis on which to speak in your defense.”

Background on the Allegations

The investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, published over the weekend, scrutinized Kila’s claimed academic credentials and his designation as a professor. Kila, currently the pro-chancellor at Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, has long positioned himself in the public eye as a “Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development,” despite findings indicating he has never been officially conferred the rank of professor.

In response to the report, Kila has threatened legal recourse while maintaining his claims and disputing the allegations brought forward.

Ojudu, who served as senator for Ekiti Central from 2011 to 2015 after winning his seat with the Action Congress of Nigeria, continues to engage in discussions about integrity and accountability in academic spaces.
