Florida Resident Prepares for Hurricane Isaias

Home Preparations Amidst the Approaching Storm

As Hurricane Isaias approaches the coast of Florida, residents of Navarre are taking precautionary measures to safeguard their homes and loved ones. John Guoth, a local resident, shares insights into his preparations as the storm nears.

Securing the Household

Despite knowing the risks involved with hurricanes, Guoth and his wife have chosen to remain in their home while many of their neighbors have evacuated. “It’s a hurricane, we get them all the time… we kind of knew that when we moved here,” he stated.

To prevent damage, Guoth has taken extensive steps to secure his property. “Pretty much everything that can fly and will fly is battened down, and everything that cannot fly is really, really secured,” he explained, affirming his commitment to protecting his home.

Caring for Livestock

In addition to securing his home, Guoth has also made arrangements for his pets. He mentioned putting his ducks and chickens in the bathroom to keep them safe from the storm’s potential impact. Boats and trailers have been weighed down to ensure stability during the harsh weather conditions.

Community Response

Interestingly, Guoth noted that he is one of the few residents remaining on his street. “There’s nobody here. Everyone’s gone,” he remarked. He acknowledged that only a handful of long-term locals have chosen to stay behind, all committed to safeguarding their property and community.

Staying Positive

With the storm approaching, Guoth remains optimistic. “We’re just loving life, all you can do, we’re going to cook until there’s no power, and then we’re going to wait until there is power,” he commented, showcasing his resilience in the face of adversity.

Conclusion

As Florida braces for Hurricane Isaias, residents like John Guoth exemplify preparedness and a steadfast spirit. Their commitment to protecting their homes, families, and even their animals emphasizes the strong sense of community shared among those who face the unpredictable nature of hurricane season.
