Current Trends in Blockchain Activity and Trading Volumes
Decline in Active Blockchain Addresses
Recent data indicates a notable drop in the number of active blockchain addresses, averaging around 322,000 daily during the latest week. This represents a 31% decrease compared to mid-September. While this decline suggests reduced activity within the network, it is important to note that it does not directly equate to a decrease in the number of individual users. One user may control multiple addresses, and automated trading programs can create thousands of transactions, complicating the relationship between address activity and user engagement.

Spot Trading Volumes Decline
In addition to the lessening number of active addresses, trading volumes on spot exchanges have also declined. From October 2 to October 8, these exchanges recorded a transaction volume of $7.45 billion, marking a 21% drop from the $9.46 billion reported the previous week. Notably, Uniswap facilitated approximately 77% of this trading activity, highlighting its dominance in token-swapping without intermediary involvement.
Increased Deposits and Stablecoin Supply
Despite the decrease in trading activity, users appear to be holding onto their assets rather than withdrawing funds. The deposits within lending and trading applications on the Robinhood Chain have increased by about 2% over the week, reaching $1.04 billion. Concurrently, the supply of stablecoins, which are tokens pegged to the dollar, has risen to approximately $1.10 billion. This suggests that traders are opting to retain their funds on the platform, perhaps signaling a wait-and-see approach regarding market movements.
Growth in Perpetual Futures Trading
One area showing resilience amidst the declining trend is the market for perpetual futures. According to data from DefiLlama, the volume for perpetual futures increased by 26%, totaling around $7.35 billion over the past week. These contracts allow traders to speculate on price movements without requiring ownership of the underlying tokens, indicating a shift in trading strategies as users adapt to the current market conditions.
