Ohio State’s Ryan Day Addresses Bye Week and Julian Sayin’s Injury
Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has expressed mixed feelings regarding the team’s upcoming bye week, especially in light of quarterback Julian Sayin’s recent injury. Speaking during Monday’s Buckeye Roundtable on 97.1 The Fan, Day confirmed that Sayin will be sidelined for “at least several weeks” due to an injury sustained during the game against Indiana.
Julian Sayin’s Status
Despite the setback, Day noted that Sayin remains involved in team activities, undergoing ongoing testing and meetings to assess his condition and potential recovery timeline for the remainder of the season. This situation adds urgency to the team’s preparations as they navigate the absence of their first-string quarterback.
Day’s Perspective on Bye Weeks
Day conveyed his general unease with bye weeks, acknowledging that periods of inactivity can be challenging. However, he also recognized that the timing of this week could be beneficial. “I don’t love bye weeks because being idle for a week is not ideal. That being said, I do think everything going on with Julian being down and getting our guys healthy, I think it does come at a good time,” he stated.
Focus on Improvement
Even with the bye week in place and Sayin’s absence from the first-team lineup, Day emphasized that the program will remain focused on development. “We’re going to stay busy here. We got a lot to do. We’re going to get on the self-scout,” he mentioned. “We’re going to work on our fundamentals. We’re going to make sure we’re on it this week, and we’re keeping our edge going into next week.”
