Survivors Ball Raises Awareness for Domestic Abuse Victims in Myrtle Beach
On Saturday, Myrtle Beach, SC, witnessed its third annual Survivors Ball aimed at raising funds for those affected by domestic abuse and violence. The event is hosted by My Covered Scars Resource Group, an organization dedicated to providing essential resources and support to local victims.
Personal Motivation Behind the Initiative
LaToya Graham, the founder of My Covered Scars Resource Group, draws from her own experiences as a survivor of domestic violence to advocate for others. Graham noted, “I am a domestic violence survivor, and my children and I do this because there was no resources for me… so I started it for other people.”
The organization not only serves as a beacon of hope but also offers critical services such as mental health support, housing assistance, and clothing donations. Graham elaborated, “We connect them to other people for resources like mental health, clothing, housing. We also house people, help pay bills, whatever we could possibly do to make them live again.”
Empowering Messages from Survivors
During the event, two attendees shared their powerful messages aimed at individuals currently facing abuse. Nina Gory emphasized the importance of reaching out, stating, “Talk to someone that they truly trust… Your life is more important. Leave it behind. Leave with the clothes on your back.”
Another attendee, Talitha Marie Carthane, encouraged others not to lose hope: “Keep persevering, keep striving. It’s so much help, it’s so many resources… have the courage, and the bravery to stick up for yourself, know what you want out of life, and go for it.”
Support Resources Available
Individuals in need of assistance are urged to reach out to My Covered Scars Resource Group. This organization plays a vital role in connecting survivors with the necessary tools to rebuild their lives.
