Bitcoin’s Performance and Market Trends Ahead of Uptober

Current Market Overview

As of Friday, Bitcoin’s price stands at $86,757, reflecting a 3% increase over the last 24 hours and a 2% rise over the week. Despite this recent uptick, Bitcoin remains approximately 31% lower than its record high from a year ago.

This price movement follows a positive inflation reading, where the August core PCE index reported a 3.0% increase, falling short of the anticipated 3.3%. The latest data has altered market expectations, raising the likelihood of the Federal Reserve holding interest rates steady during its upcoming meeting on October 28 to 74%, a rise from 35.8% just a week prior.

ETF Inflows and Investment Trends

In the third quarter, Spot Bitcoin ETFs captured $6.34 billion in investments, following a trend of strong inflows. Notably, September alone contributed $2.65 billion, marking the second-highest monthly inflow since October 2025.

Net assets for these ETFs now total approximately $109.3 billion; however, overall inflows for 2026 remain below the $1 billion mark. Analysts have noted a return of investor confidence, with inflows registered in 10 of the last 11 sessions.

Economic Indicators Affecting Bitcoin

Recent comments from New York Fed President John Williams indicated “no need for urgency” following the last rate hike and suggested further adjustments will depend on forthcoming data. Additionally, Vice Chair Philip Jefferson emphasized the importance of gauging the balance of risks before any potential rate adjustments.

Further supporting this cautious stance, jobless claims fell to 197,000 for the week ending September 26, marking the lowest level since March 2023. In contrast, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a disappointing rise of only 29,000 in nonfarm payrolls for September, significantly below the forecasted 90,000. This suggests potential weaknesses in the labor market, influencing perceptions of economic stability.

Market Sentiment and Future Projections

The months of October and November have historically been favorable for Bitcoin, a phenomenon known as “Uptober.” Over the past decade, Bitcoin has averaged an 18% gain in October and a remarkable 46% increase during the quarter.

Market participants are currently weighing the likelihood of a rate hike in October, with estimates suggesting about a 40% chance, higher than the 26% reflected in current futures pricing. Experts believe that upcoming inflation data will be crucial in determining market direction.

Owen Yang, CEO of payments platform UPay, cautioned that while ETF inflows and institutional interest are positive, these factors might limit upside momentum if institutions engage at current price levels.

As the market approaches October, the interplay of macroeconomic indicators and the Fed’s policies will play a fundamental role in shaping Bitcoin’s trajectory.
