The Women’s Ag Network (WAN) has officially unveiled a new round of scholarship initiatives aimed at supporting women involved in agriculture, conservation, and related sectors. These scholarships are designed to facilitate professional growth and leadership development among their recipients.

Overview of Scholarships

WAN is committed to empowering women within the agricultural and conservation industries through initiatives that bolster both personal and community-centered growth. The newly introduced scholarships serve as tools to reduce financial obstacles, promoting continuous learning and development.

Merit-Based Scholarship: Fostering Leadership

The Merit-Based Scholarship targets women in South Dakota who are actively engaged in seeking advanced professional development. This scholarship aims to support those who aspire to enhance their influence and leadership skills in the agricultural and conservation fields.

  • Financial assistance is provided to cover costs related to travel, leadership program fees, and event registrations.
  • Recipients are expected to share their acquired knowledge with their communities, mentoring others and contributing to the growth of women in their industries.
  • The program aims to develop confident leaders equipped to shape the future of agriculture sustainably.

Needs-Based Scholarship: Broadening Access

In addition to the merit-based option, WAN offers a Needs-Based Scholarship designed to improve accessibility for women facing financial constraints. This scholarship is ideal for those who may encounter difficulties affording educational programs, trainings, or events that could enhance their leadership and technical skills.

This opportunity is open throughout the year on a rolling basis as funding permits, allowing more women the chance to benefit from professional development.

Strengthening Community Ties

Both scholarship programs align with WAN’s overarching mission: to foster connections, education, and leadership among women committed to agriculture and conservation. Funded through a collaborative agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), in association with the Jones County Conservation District and the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts, these scholarships symbolize WAN’s pledge to enhance the roles of women at all career stages within South Dakota’s agricultural sector.

Application Information

Applications for the Merit-Based Scholarships will be accepted from October 1, 2026 to October 31, 2026. The Needs-Based Scholarship remains available throughout the year, contingent upon available funding. Women engaged in agriculture, conservation, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply to further their professional journeys.

For more details regarding eligibility and the application process, please visit the official website at www.womensagnetwork.org.
