Ithaca College Women’s Soccer Secures First Liberty League Win Against Skidmore

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca College women’s soccer team achieved a significant milestone on Saturday by defeating the Skidmore Thoroughbreds at Carp Wood Field, marking their first victory in the Liberty League for this season. Following this win, the Bombers improved their record to 5-2-3 overall, with a Liberty League standing of 1-1-1.

Match Overview

The Bombers dominated possession during the first half, successfully limiting Skidmore’s scoring opportunities while generating their own chances. Ithaca broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Julia Gilgar found the net after a corner kick assist from Jayne Bogle, leading the score to 1-0 in favor of the Bombers.

Defensive Resilience

Skidmore managed to create a threatening opportunity at the 35:10 mark with a shot on target; however, Ithaca goalkeeper Katrina Varnum demonstrated her skill by making a crucial save that maintained the Bombers’ slim lead. As the second half commenced, Ithaca’s offense put additional pressure on the Thoroughbreds while their defense stood resilient.

Final Outcome

Despite several exchanges of possession throughout the second half, Ithaca’s defense remained solid, ensuring that Skidmore could not find the equalizer. The Bombers concluded the match with a 1-0 victory, achieving their third shutout of the season. Varnum’s performance included a total of two saves that secured the clean sheet.

Looking Ahead
