XRP Market Analysis: Whale Activity Sparks Price Fluctuation
The cryptocurrency XRP saw a decline of approximately 3% on Thursday, coinciding with a notable increase in whale deposits to Binance, which surged to a seven-month high.
Surge in Whale Selling Activity
According to insights from CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, the influx of XRP from whales to Binance reached $112.4 million, marking the highest monthly average since March. Darkfost defines whales as wallets engaging in transactions exceeding 1 million XRP, enabling him to monitor this group’s trading patterns closely.
Since August, the monthly average whale deposits have increased by $72 million, surpassing the previous average of around $90 million recorded over the last three months. Notably, individual daily deposits have occasionally exceeded $400 million. Darkfost attributes this spike to XRP’s recovery of over 30% since August, suggesting that large holders seized the opportunity to realize profits.
Nevertheless, recent inflows have moderated, with September’s peak falling short of August levels, indicating that the most intense selling pressure may have already subsided.
ETF Activity and Derivatives Insights
On October 21, U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) registered $708,520 in net inflows, breaking a streak of two sessions with no net movement, as reported by SoSoValue. Notably, the Franklin XRPZ (NYSE:XRPZ) fund attracted $2.25 million, counterbalanced by roughly $1.55 million in outflows from the Bitwise XRP (NYSE:XRP) fund. Cumulatively, net inflows across all XRP ETFs have reached an impressive $1.80 billion.
In contrast, derivatives markets reflect a more cautious outlook. XRP’s trading volume increased by about 6.5%, reaching $2.81 billion, while open interest declined by approximately 5% to $2.93 billion. This combination often indicates that traders are more inclined to close existing positions rather than initiate new ones.
Additionally, the 24-hour period recorded long liquidations totaling $4.90 million, starkly contrasting with the $887,140 in short liquidations, highlighting that bullish positions faced the majority of the adverse impacts during this price correction.
Technical Analysis of XRP
XRP’s recent price drop resulted from rejection at the $1.37 mark, causing the token to fall below all four significant exponential moving averages (EMAs) and dip beneath the $1.35 Fibonacci level. The unsuccessful attempt to reclaim its ascending trendline, coupled with a Relative Strength Index (RSI) around 42, suggests that sellers continue to dominate the market.
Key Technical Levels for Consideration:
- Support: $1.30
- Resistance Zone: $1.34 to $1.35 (a level buyers need to reclaim)
Conclusion
As the cryptocurrency market evolves, XRP’s behavior amidst heightened whale activity and fluctuating ETF and derivatives trends warrants close monitoring. Investors and traders alike should remain vigilant to navigate the shifting landscape effectively.
