XRP’s Market Performance: Supply Growth and Demand Dynamics
In the ever-evolving landscape of cryptocurrency, major tokens such as Bitcoin and Ether have seen significant price corrections from their peaks in 2025. However, they still remain considerably above values recorded in 2017. A closer examination of XRP reveals two critical factors contributing to its current market dynamics: the surge in circulating supply and a notable decline in demand.
Surge in Circulating Supply
Analysts have pointed to the substantial increase in XRP’s circulating supply as a pivotal factor impacting its market value. According to Nicolai Sondergaard, a senior research analyst at Nansen, the circulating supply of XRP escalated by 63% from 38.7 billion in 2017 to 63.1 billion today. This increase occurred while its total market value experienced only a minor drop of approximately 3%.
Sondergaard explained, “More XRP in circulation means each token represents a smaller share of roughly the same total value.” As the circulating supply expands, the individual worth of each XRP diminishes, influencing its market price.
Further insights were provided by Oliver Carding, head of marketing at Tesseract Group. He noted, “On value, XRP recovered. About 63% more XRP is in circulation than at that peak, so the same circulating market capitalization would mean a price roughly 39% lower.” Tesseract Group manages over $500 million in assets and offers a perspective that values XRP beyond its price point, focusing on the implications of its supply growth.
Decline in Demand
The introduction of U.S.-listed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has enabled institutional investors to gain exposure to the digital asset market. While Bitcoin and Ether ETFs have amassed substantial investments, XRP has not experienced similar uptake. Paul Howard, senior director at market-making firm Wincent, noted, “ETF uptake has also been muted relative to $BTC and $ETH,” underscoring a significant gap in institutional interest for XRP.
This disparity in demand could be further impacting the token’s relative performance in the market, as institutional funds appear more attracted to the broader value propositions offered by Bitcoin and Ether compared to XRP.
Conclusion
XRP’s journey through the cryptocurrency market is marked by notable supply growth and challenges in demand. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for investors and market participants as they navigate the complexities of digital assets in a fluctuating economic environment.
