Zcash Set to Activate NU7 Upgrade for Faster Payments
Overview of NU7 Upgrade
Zcash is preparing to implement a significant upgrade known as NU7, which will drastically improve transaction processing speeds on its privacy-centric blockchain. The upgrade is slated for activation at block height 3,543,405, a decision ratified by the Zcash Improvement Proposal (ZIP) editors during a recent meeting.
Details on Implementation
Sean Bowe, a prominent developer within the Zcash community, submitted a formal proposal on Tuesday to confirm the activation of NU7. The expected date for this enhancement is around November 5.
Data from Zakura’s public upgrade dashboard now reflects this block height as the designated mainnet activation point, meaning users will soon benefit from faster transactions.
Impact on Transaction Processing
The NU7 upgrade will reduce the block time from 75 seconds to just 25 seconds. This change means that exchanges waiting for three confirmations before processing ZEC deposits could see the time required to complete transactions decrease from close to four minutes to approximately one minute and fifteen seconds.
Current Testing Status
The upgrade has been operational on Zcash’s test network since early October. This phase has allowed developers to fine-tune the system and ensure smooth functionality prior to the mainnet launch.
