Bitcoin’s Resilience Amid Rising Treasury Yields

Current Financial Landscape

As of early October 2026, the 10-year Treasury yield has surged to 5.31%, the highest level since 2002. Analyst Tony Pasquariello of Goldman Sachs highlights that such high yields exert pressure on both equities and non-yielding assets, including Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has recently experienced a rally, registering a 33% increase over the past 90 days. However, this comes after a year in which the cryptocurrency has declined by 30%, while government bonds have consistently generated interest during that time.

Recent Investment Trends

In the week leading up to September 29, Bitcoin-related investment funds attracted $3.55 billion, representing the largest weekly inflow of the year, according to CoinShares. Of this, Bitcoin funds accounted for $2.52 billion. However, momentum is critical; this influx must persist over subsequent weeks to indicate sustained demand rather than a temporary spike.

Notably, as Treasury yields climbed, Bitcoin’s performance seemed less correlated. On October 3, Bitcoin was trading around $84,600.

Understanding the Treasuries’ Impact

The 10-year Treasury yield is a benchmark for other interest rates and is viewed as a secure investment. Historically, rising yields tend to see capital flow away from riskier assets like Bitcoin, as they provide fixed returns. This year, the yield increased by 0.55 percentage points just in September, largely influenced by anticipated Federal Reserve rate hikes, elevated energy prices, and increasing national debt.

In this context, Bitcoin faces challenges; unlike Treasury bonds, it does not generate income and relies solely on price appreciation to attract investors.

Bitcoin’s September Surge

Despite the rising yields, Bitcoin gained around 10% in September, marking its best performance for that month since 2012, even as the Federal Reserve implemented interest rate hikes. This uptick can primarily be attributed to significant inflows from U.S. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which accumulated approximately $2.4 billion within just five trading days leading up to September 25.

However, the sustainability of this demand remains uncertain, as a single week of substantial inflows does not guarantee prolonged interest. Market movements may reflect ongoing trader adjustments rather than a continued bullish trend.

Long-Term Performance and Volatility

In the broader picture, Bitcoin’s price trajectory has been less favorable compared to Treasury bonds. Over the past year, Bitcoin has suffered a 30% decline, while bond investors accumulated consistent monthly interest. As a result, those holding Bitcoin from a year ago are still facing significant losses.

The apparent resilience exhibited by Bitcoin in recent months does not negate its overall downturn. With a 33% recovery noted in the last 90 days, this rebound may be seen as a temporary value adjustment amid a challenging year.

The Future Outlook for Bitcoin

As Bitcoin continues to navigate the influences of the bond market, it remains to be seen if upcoming weeks will solidify its recent gains. Should the 10-year yield continue to climb beyond 5.31%, and if fund inflows turn negative, Bitcoin could face sharp corrections. Conversely, ongoing investment into Bitcoin alongside sustained high yields may position the asset toward the coveted $100,000 threshold.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while Bitcoin demonstrated a noteworthy performance amidst rising Treasury yields, it remains within a wider context of volatility and lengthy downturns. Investors and analysts alike will be closely monitoring these trends to gauge how Bitcoin might adapt to the evolving financial landscape.
