Mick Gordon Open to Contributing to Future Installments of Doom
Mick Gordon, renowned for his powerful compositions in the Doom franchise, has revealed his willingness to return to the series for future projects. This statement came during an interview at PAX Australia, where he noted that he remains passionate about the iconic first-person shooter, despite previous disputes with id Software.
Potential for Collaboration
“There are a lot of dominoes that would have to fall in a very specific way for that to occur,” Gordon stated. “If those dominoes ever fell in that way, I would. Of course. Within a heartbeat.”
While he did not specify what these “dominoes” might be, it’s possible that tensions with Marty Stratton, executive producer of Doom Eternal, have yet to be resolved. In a detailed 2022 Medium post, Gordon alleged that he was owed payment for a substantial portion of his work on the Doom Eternal soundtrack and characterized his interactions with Stratton as consistently challenging.
Gordon’s Vision for Doom
Despite the challenges faced during the production of Doom Eternal, Gordon expressed a lasting enthusiasm for the Doom series. He mentioned, “I had a whole list of ideas where I wanted to go with Doom, and I’d love to explore that one day, for sure.”
Current and Future Projects
As the future of Doom remains uncertain, especially following layoffs at id Software affecting 136 employees due to Microsoft’s budget cuts, Gordon has been involved in several other projects. Recently, he worked on the theme music for the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, set to launch on October 14. Additionally, he is developing the full soundtrack for Defect, a new squad-based cyberpunk shooter created by veterans of both Doom and Call of Duty.
Looking ahead, Gordon will make a notable return to the music of Doom by headlining the RADAR music festival in the UK in 2027, where he will perform the iconic tracks from Doom and Doom Eternal live with a full band for the first time.
