Return of Classic Titles

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced the launch of 25 classic games on Steam, featuring “Anniversary Editions” of well-loved titles such as Road Rash, the iconic motorcycle racing game, and six titles from the Wing Commander series. These updated editions are designed to retain the original essence and creative vision while incorporating enhancements for contemporary gaming systems.

Reviving History Through Digitization

According to EA, the inspiration for these new editions arose from the discovery of a vast “physical media vault” containing numerous Betacam, VHS, and D1 tapes among other media assets. This project allowed EA to digitize and recover master Full Motion Video (FMV) sequences, enabling the restoration of over 1,500 scenes across the titles. Moreover, the new iterations of Wing Commander officially integrate several community-generated modifications to enrich the gaming experience.

Pricing and Availability

The Road Rash and Wing Commander Anniversary Editions are priced at $9.99, while other classic games, which include titles from the Ultima and Crusader series, will be available for $4.99 each. These games can be purchased on various platforms, including Steam, GOG, and the EA App.
