Tragic Incident in Arcadia Leads to Police Pursuit

Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a teenage girl in Arcadia, California. The girl was reportedly shot by a 20-year-old man, identified as Paul Anthony Cruz Jr., who had forced entry into her residence.

Shooting in Arcadia

On Thursday morning, around 11 a.m., Arcadia police received a distress call concerning a possible shooting in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced her dead at the scene. The police have not disclosed the name of the victim as the investigation is ongoing.

Suspect Flees to Pasadena

Following the incident in Arcadia, Cruz fled the scene, leading police to intensify their search efforts. Approximately an hour later, he was reported to have attempted suicide in Pasadena. According to a statement from Pasadena city spokesperson Lisa Derderian, Cruz was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 12:30 p.m. and was immediately taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Witness Accounts

Witnesses reported that the shooting incident in Pasadena took place in broad daylight, drawing a crowd of onlookers. Michael Amini, a local business manager, recounted his experience: “It was really fast,” he said, describing how police arrived mere seconds after Cruz was found lying face down on the sidewalk.

Ongoing Investigation

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is overseeing the investigation, which has been classified as a homicide. They confirmed that Cruz and the victim were in a dating relationship at the time of the shooting. This series of events has left the community in shock as law enforcement works to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic affair.

Conclusion

This incident highlights the pressing issue of domestic violence and its tragic repercussions. Authorities are committed to providing answers as they continue their investigation into the events that led to such a devastating outcome.
