Hoodi Postpones Glamsterdam Upgrade: What You Need to Know
The anticipated Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, originally slated for activation on October 26, 2026, has been postponed. As of now, no new date for its implementation has been established.
Reasons for the Postponement
Following discussions among core developers, it was determined that delaying the Glamsterdam network upgrade is necessary to conduct further examinations regarding the interaction of EIP-8037 with smart contracts on the mainnet. This change was formalized in ACDE #248.
The delay not only halts the upcoming execution layer activation but also the Gloas consensus layer activation. Additionally, it cancels the planned gas-limit adjustment that would have increased Hoodi’s gas limit to 200 million during the same epoch.
Impact on Hoodi’s Configuration
This development effectively rolls back certain configurations intended for a future upgrade; however, it does not alter Hoodi’s existing chain history. The activation originally set for October 26 is now off the table, without any replacement date or epoch provided in the updated configurations. Further announcements regarding a new upgrade schedule will be made in due course.
Guidance for Hoodi Node and Validator Operators
For those managing Hoodi nodes or validators, it is crucial to review both execution and consensus layer clients to ensure they reflect the postponement before the initial activation date. Software or network configurations that still reference the previous timing for Glamsterdam must be updated to align with the latest Hoodi instructions.
Operators should not assume that prior client release notes confirm the postponement. It is essential to follow the release notes provided by your client teams regarding the revised Hoodi schedule. Additionally, validator operators are advised to check instructions pertinent to their validator clients and associated infrastructure.
Future Client Releases
New client versions reflecting the postponed Glamsterdam activation will be listed as they become available. Ensure your execution and consensus layer clients are updated to versions whose release notes explicitly state the cancellation of the October 26 activation.
Users should periodically check back for updates on client releases linked to this announcement.
Consensus Layer Releases
For effective operation, both the Consensus Layer Beacon Node and the Validator Client need to be updated. Future listings will specify the versions to utilize, including:
- Grandine
- Lighthouse
- Lodestar v1.50.1
- Nimbus
- Prysm
- Teku
Execution Layer Releases
Guidance for builders and validators will be provided as confirmed for the postponed activation. Operators utilizing external block-building infrastructure must adhere to their respective provider’s directions.
Information for Application Developers and Mainnet Users
Developers and users are advised against planning any Hoodi testing around the previously announced October 26 activation date. An updated schedule for Hoodi’s activation will be provided separately.
This announcement is specifically related to Hoodi and does not imply any changes to the Glamsterdam mainnet activation date. No action is required from users of the Ethereum mainnet or ETH holders at this time.
