Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1: New Features and Bug Fixes Announced

In an exciting development for Android users, Google has begun the rollout of Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1, following the recent QPR2 release. This beta version promises to refine user experience and will see its official stable release in March 2027.

What’s New in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1

Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 introduces a range of fixes aimed at enhancing functionality and addressing common issues. Below is a summary of the significant problems that have been resolved:

  • Audio Management: Users can now switch audio output devices seamlessly while playing audio from apps without active media controls (Previously reported Issue #259180936).
  • Foreground Service Stability: Crash issues when starting a foreground service from Quick Settings tiles have been fixed (Issue #299506164).
  • User Interface Improvements: Excessive spacing in app icons and issues with app previews in the recent apps screen have been addressed (Issues #316288379 and #515091621).
  • NFC and Connectivity: Resolved a crash in the NFC service and various connectivity issues affecting eSIM profiles and Wi-Fi reconnection (Issues #456078994 and #551970385).
  • Camera Functionality: Fixed a rotation issue with camera feeds during video calls in external display desktop mode (Issue #432390710).
  • Device Performance: Unresponsiveness when unlocking with fingerprint and Face Unlock settings have also seen improvements (Issues #490719716 and #466618368).
  • Media and App Performance: Resolved multiple crashes related to audio playback and applications freezing (Issues #552043106 and #484969809).

How to Report Issues

Users participating in the Android Beta program can report any unresolved issues through the Android Beta Feedback app accessible from the application drawer or Quick Settings. Furthermore, an active community on Reddit provides a platform for shared experiences and solutions.

Device Compatibility

Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 system images are available for a wide range of devices, including:

  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
  • Pixel 8 series
  • Pixel 9 series
  • Pixel 10 series
  • Pixel 11 series
  • And more, including the Android Emulator

Participating in the Beta Program

Joining the Android Beta Program allows users to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates directly on their devices. For those who wish to return to stable releases, opting out of the Beta program is possible without data loss, provided the process is followed correctly.

If you prefer to leave the Beta program and receive the public stable release of Android 17 QPR2, you can do so without wiping your device by opting out and not installing today’s QPR3 Beta 1 update. If you opt-out of the program after installing Beta 1 or any future updates, all user data will be wiped as per the usual program guidelines. Ignore this update and wait for the Android 17 QPR2 public release instead.

Stay tuned for further updates as Google continues to refine Android 17 and enhance user experiences.
