Positive Early Feedback

Despite prior concerns surrounding the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 pre-launch controversies and beta player counts on PC, initial reception has taken a favorable turn. Currently, the game holds a Very Positive rating of 92% from over 3,100 user reviews on Steam.

The campaign mode became accessible on October 13 for players who pre-ordered any digital edition of the game. Players have reacted positively as they delved into the campaign, which lasts approximately six hours.

Launch Context and Player Numbers

While the official release of Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for October 23, determining the exact player count remains challenging due to limitations in tracking systems like SteamDB. This system requires ownership of the game for accurate data.

Comparatively, the sentiment towards Modern Warfare 4 is significantly more optimistic than last year’s Black Ops 7, which currently enjoys a Mostly Negative rating of 37%. This stark contrast marks Modern Warfare 4 as the highest-rated Call of Duty installment in over a decade.

Community Perception and Critiques

It is important to note that the current players are likely to be among the franchise’s most dedicated fans, potentially contributing to their lenient view of the game. Though a full review is still pending, IGN recently assessed the campaign, awarding it a score of 8/10.

In terms of player sentiment from previous installments, the rebooted series sees 2019’s Modern Warfare with a Mostly Positive rating of 79%, while Modern Warfare 2 from 2022 has a lower rating of 45%. The Black Ops: Cold War game also maintains a Mostly Positive rating of 79%.

Upcoming Features and Future Updates

Players are looking forward to experiencing the new DMZ mode, an extraction shooter variant, which is set to unlock on October 20 for those who pre-ordered. Additionally, the traditional multiplayer aspect of the game will be available starting October 23, a critical upcoming milestone likely to influence overall player sentiment and reviews.
