Ripple’s Scheduled XRP Token Unlock and Market Implications
Ripple is set to release 1 billion XRP tokens from its escrow accounts on November 1, 2026, as part of its established monthly token distribution strategy. This event marks another step in the ongoing management of XRP’s supply.
Understanding XRP’s Supply Dynamics
The impending release of XRP tokens may impact the market’s available supply, although it does not guarantee that all released tokens will be sold. Historically, Ripple has returned a significant proportion of tokens back to escrow while reserving some for operational needs, liquidity management, and ecosystem activities.
Recent data indicates that two Ripple-manage wallets still retained 500 million XRP each since the last release on October 1, with no signs of outgoing transactions from these wallets. This adds complexity to the XRP supply landscape as November approaches.
The Escrow Mechanism Explained
Ripple instituted its escrow program in December 2017, locking away 55 billion XRP—equivalent to 55% of its total supply of 100 billion XRP—within time-bound contracts. The initiative aimed to make the distribution of XRP more predictable, allowing for monthly releases of tokens while ensuring that unused tokens would be re-locked into new escrow contracts rather than flooding the market.
Since the inception of this program, Ripple has generally upheld this process. An analysis of on-chain data reveals that approximately 700 million XRP, or 70% of each recent monthly release, has been returned to escrow, allowing around 300 million XRP for operational and liquidity purposes each month.
Market Conditions Ahead of the Unlock
This upcoming token unlock occurs within a challenging market context for XRP. Recent reports highlight that U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced outflows totaling $3.61 million leading up to October 29, stirring concerns regarding institutional interest. Nevertheless, larger holders of XRP appear to be accumulating, with wallets containing at least 10 million XRP collectively handling approximately 46.87 billion tokens, which constitutes about 68.5% of the circulating supply.
XRP Price Movements and Technical Analysis
As of the latest data, XRP is priced at $1.24, reflecting a decline of approximately 0.9% over the past 24 hours and a more than 2% drop over the week. This valuation places XRP below its 50-day simple moving average (SMA) of $1.39 and its 200-day SMA of $1.28, suggesting a bearish outlook on technical indicators.

Despite these trends, the 50-day SMA remains higher than the 200-day SMA, indicating that a long-term bearish crossover has yet to occur. The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) is recorded at 37.46, suggesting that momentum is waning but is still above the oversold threshold of 30. This scenario highlights XRP’s potential for further decline, although any resurgence in buying pressure could allow it to reclaim the 200-day SMA as a critical resistance point.
