Samsung and Google Prepare Launch for Smart Glasses
Samsung, in collaboration with Google and fashion names Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, is set to launch their highly anticipated Android XR Glasses in mid-December 2026. After months of speculation and anticipation, the partners are gearing up for a significant release.
Warby Parker recently announced that preorders for the smart glasses will commence on November 12. While the exact pricing remains undisclosed, the products are expected to hit the market shortly thereafter.
Production and Store Demos
During a recent earnings call, Warby Parker’s co-founder and co-CEO, Dave Gilboa, mentioned, “We are anticipating a pretty robust preorder period before then, and then for production and sales to scale meaningfully in 2027.” This indicates a strong initial demand and a planned growth strategy for the glasses.
In an effort to facilitate customer engagement, Warby Parker intends to provide in-store demonstrations at 65 of its USA locations, with plans to expand to a total of 360 locations across the country. Specific store details are yet to be revealed.
Functional Features
Earlier this year at Google I/O, PCMag had an opportunity to try out “in-progress” Warby Parker smart glasses. Although the demo mainly showcased audio functionality, it was noted that access to the Gemini system appeared to be one of the key features.
Concerns and Market Reception
As the launch date approaches, there is growing concern regarding the privacy implications associated with smart glasses. Reports of potential misuse have led to critiques of this technology, with some public venues choosing to impose bans on the devices.
While specific features of the Gentle Monster edition of the glasses remain under wraps, it is anticipated that further details will emerge leading up to the launch.
