The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered Launched with Exciting Free Upgrade Options
The highly anticipated remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on September 29, instantly gaining recognition as the best-reviewed game of the year. This remastered edition has particularly thrilled fans, as it provides free access to anyone with a digital copy of the original game.
Remaster Features and Enhancements
Released in 2015, The Witcher 3 has undergone a substantial transformation with this remastered version. Players can now enjoy:
- Enhanced visual fidelity and performance improvements
- A refined skill system
- Updated combat mechanics
Whether you are revisiting the game or experiencing it for the first time, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is a noteworthy addition to any gamer’s library.
Access on Switch 2
For most gaming platforms, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is offered as an upgrade to existing owners. However, the situation is slightly different for players using the Switch 2. Instead, the remastered version must be downloaded separately, adding a distinct entry in their digital library titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered – Switch 2 Edition.
A Unique Upgrade Mechanism
A report from Kotaku highlighted an interesting situation for owners of a physical edition of The Witcher 3 on the original Switch. By inserting the cartridge into a Switch 2, players are granted a digital license for the remastered game. This means they can play the remaster without needing to keep the cartridge in the console, effectively duplicating the game in their digital library.
This particular mechanism has opened a door to a significant exploit. Players have begun inserting the same cartridge into multiple Switch 2 consoles, allowing them to acquire free versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. As a result, any Switch 2 owner can potentially access this upgraded edition by simply borrowing a cartridge from a friend or library.
Market Reception and Legacy
Over the past decade, The Witcher 3 has sold millions of copies globally, with dedicated fans often purchasing it across different platforms. Given that the remaster is positioned as a free upgrade, it seems unlikely that either CD Projekt Red or Nintendo will address this glitch. Therefore, for those who own a physical copy of the original game for Switch, it may be an opportune moment to dig out the cartridge and take advantage of this offer.
