UK Cryptocurrency Trader Reports Armed Theft of $800,000
A cryptocurrency trader in the United Kingdom has reported a shocking incident involving nearly $800,000 in stolen assets. The trader, who uses the pseudonym “realist” on the social platform X, revealed that armed individuals broke into his home, threatening him with a knife and coercing him to transfer his digital currency to a specified wallet.
Details of the Incident
The attack resulted in the loss of approximately $40,000 from a hot wallet and $720,000 from the trader’s Ledger wallet. In an effort to document the event, the trader provided a Solana wallet address through the blockchain explorer Solscan, although there has been no formal confirmation of the incident from law enforcement or any authorities as of now.
Warnings to Traders
Following the traumatic experience, the trader shared a stark message with others involved in cryptocurrency, advising, “If you live in the U.K. and do crypto get the f**k out.” This resonates with ongoing concerns regarding the safety of investors in the digital asset space.
Context of Cryptocurrency Crimes
This occurrence is not isolated. It echoes reports from December of the previous year, when another cryptocurrency investor was violently attacked at home by masked intruders who threatened his pregnant wife while demanding large sums in digital currency. Such incidents, sometimes referred to as “wrench attacks,” involve the use of physical threats or violence to intimidate crypto holders into relinquishing their assets.
