Overview of the iPhone Handoff Feature
Verizon has announced that its users will be able to access Apple’s new iPhone Handoff feature, set to debut alongside iOS 27. However, this service will come at a cost of $10 per month.
Initially introduced by T-Mobile in the U.S. at a lower fee of $5 monthly, the iPhone Handoff feature was also made available through Deutsche Telekom in Germany.
Functionality of iPhone Handoff
The iPhone Handoff feature allows users to utilize the same eSIM number on two different devices, provided they are both operating on iOS 27 and linked to the same Apple ID. While both devices cannot simultaneously use the same number, users have the flexibility to select which device is active at any moment.
- Calls and messages are redirected to the device currently in use.
- iCloud backups are synced across both devices.
- Users can quickly switch which device is primary based on their preference.
Setting Up and Using iPhone Handoff
To activate the iPhone Handoff feature, users need to follow these steps:
- Navigate to Settings > Cellular.
- Select “Set up Cellular” or “Add eSIM” on the newer device.
- Choose “iPhone” and click on “Continue” to transfer the eSIM.
Switching between devices is seamless; simply unlock the iPhone you wish to use, and a notification will confirm the switch at the top of the screen.
To maintain security, Apple recommends that both iPhones have passcodes activated to control which device is currently using the shared number.
