Apple’s Shift Towards Touchscreen MacBook Pro Models
Apple appears to be moving toward consolidating its premium MacBook Pro line by focusing on touchscreen models, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This development follows the introduction of Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook Pros, which feature upgraded tech and functionality.
End of Non-Touch MacBook Pros?
In his “Power On” newsletter, Gurman speculated whether Apple will continue to develop high-end MacBook Pro variants that lack touchscreen capabilities. Currently, the company maintains dual product lines that include both mini-LED M5 Pro and M5 Max models and newer touchscreen options, which are priced approximately $400 higher than their non-touch counterparts. Gurman points out the logistical challenges and resource consumption associated with supporting both lines, suggesting a potential convergence in the future.
Future Developments in the MacBook Lineup
Looking ahead, Gurman shared that Apple is poised to unveil the next generation of touchscreen MacBook Pros in 2027. These upcoming models are expected to be powered by the new M7 Pro and M7 Max processors, which will introduce enhanced AI capabilities. Furthermore, a redesign of the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro will provide a lighter chassis, a thinner profile, and narrower display borders—features that align with the latest high-end versions.
Recent Touchscreen Innovations
Just last week, Apple launched its inaugural touchscreen MacBook Pro models, incorporating M5 Pro and M5 Max chips that were introduced earlier this year. The new design integrates OLED displays with Dynamic Island technology, offering users a lighter and more sleek experience, bolstered by a revised cooling system that effectively directs warm air away from the screen.
What This Means for Consumers
This strategic shift hints at Apple’s intent to provide an enriched user experience by capitalizing on the growing demand for touchscreen functionality in professional-grade laptops. As the company phases out non-touch models, consumers can expect greater advancements in display technology and overall performance in the MacBook Pro lineup.
