Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: Major Update 1.0.8 Released
Following a brief period of minimal updates, Ubisoft has officially released a substantial update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. This noteworthy patch serves as the game’s final major update and incorporates various long-anticipated features.
Release Details
Update 1.0.8 became available across multiple platforms on October 27th at 7 AM PT, 10 AM ET, and 2 PM UK time. The update size varies by platform, ranging from 2 to 4.5 GB for PCs, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, while Xbox users will experience a larger download of 15.5 GB.
New Game Plus (NG+) Mode
The standout feature of this update is the introduction of the New Game Plus mode, which Ubisoft began developing in July following the release of Resynced. This mode allows players to carry forward several achievements from their initial game session, although not everything is retained. Here’s what players can expect to transfer to NG+:
- All tools, upgrades, weapons, and trinkets acquired by Edward.
- All upgrades and abilities for the Jackdaw, including unlocked officer abilities and pets (note: officers must be re-recruited).
- All currency, materials, and trade goods from the inventory.
- All custom outfits and customization options.
- Progression in hideouts, acquired perks, and art collections.
- All ships within the Kenway fleet.
- Codex items, including treasure maps that have been obtained and completed.
- Items acquired from the store.
However, players should note that cash and trade goods are the only quest-related items that carry over, and forts will need to be re-captured as the fog of war on the map will reset.
Exclusive Currency and Increased Difficulty
NG+ introduces a new currency called Escudos, which players can earn by completing challenges and looting previously opened chests. This currency can be used to purchase exclusive NG+ outfits and items. Additionally, you can convert Reales to Escudos at the General Store.
Each NG+ run increases the game’s difficulty, introducing more elite soldiers and higher-ranked ships with each successive playthrough. Players can engage in NG+ mode up to five times for increasingly challenging experiences.
Nightmare Mode
Another significant addition in patch 1.0.8 is the Nightmare Mode, a newly implemented ultra-difficult setting. In this mode, enemies exhibit faster reaction times and deal increased damage. Players must also adjust to tighter parry timings and more frequent targeting from ranged enemies.
One critical change in this heightened difficulty mode is the removal of the one-shot kill safety, meaning players can now face instant death from powerful attacks, even if health points remain. Ubisoft aims to provide a harsher challenge where even a single duel can lead to defeat.
Additional Changes and Community Engagement
The update also includes the integration of new community chests throughout the game world, as well as a range of new cosmetics, takedown animations, and numerous bug fixes. For those aiming to navigate Nightmare Mode, a complete change log is available on the official Assassin’s Creed website, outlining the specific adjustments.
Although this marks the last significant update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the game appears to be gearing up for a launch on the upcoming Switch 2 platform, expected to incorporate all previously released enhancements.
