Apple to Merge Action Button and Camera Control in Future iPhones

Recent developments suggest that Apple may be making notable changes to the button configuration on its upcoming iPhone models, particularly with a focus on the Action button introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro.

Upcoming Changes to iPhone Button Layout

A tipster from Weibo has stated that Apple plans to phase out the dedicated Action button by the second half of 2027. This means that future iPhones may undergo a significant redesign in their user interface.

  • The Action button’s functionalities will be integrated with the Camera Control.
  • A single press on the new combined button will launch the Camera app.
  • A long press will continue to activate the shortcut previously assigned to the Action button.

It’s important to note that while the Action button is set to be removed, the Camera Control will remain. The modification aims to streamline user experience without losing customizable features.

Implications for Future iPhone Models

While the specifics of which models will adopt this change are not yet confirmed, it is mentioned that this button modification may affect the entire fall lineup in 2027, or potentially certain models only.

Speculation around this alteration also coincides with rumors of a broader redesign for next year’s Pro models, which might include the introduction of quad-curved screens, currently being tested in prototypes. Whether the button changes are part of this redesign remains to be seen.

Conclusion

As Apple continues to innovate and refine its devices, the consolidation of the Action button and Camera Control represents an intriguing shift towards a more integrated user interface. Stakeholders and customers alike will be keen to observe how these changes unfold in future iPhone releases.
