Karnataka Congress Expels Kripa Alva Over Sting Operation Allegations
Date: October 28, 2023 | Location: New Delhi
KPCC’s Disciplinary Action
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has taken decisive action by expelling former general secretary Kripa Alva for a duration of six years. This decision comes in light of her alleged involvement in a sting operation that targeted prominent Congress leaders within the state.
Vice-President of the KPCC, M Narayanaswamy, confirmed that the expulsion is effective immediately, designed to mitigate the negative publicity and embarrassment caused to the party due to the ongoing controversy.
Details of the Allegations
The KPCC issued an official order stating that Alva’s connection to the sting operation is indicative of anti-party activities. The disciplinary action follows a previous show-cause notice that was sent to her, which she has reportedly failed to respond to.
Allegations surrounding the sting operation have also brought focus to a video purportedly targeting former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This video reportedly includes unfounded sexual abuse accusations, which investigators describe as part of a “fabricated and deliberately constructed narrative.”
Ongoing Investigations
The Bengaluru police detailed that their findings reveal that claims made in the video lack evidence, describing the content as false and concocted. The original device used to record the video has been identified, seized, and is pending forensic analysis.
Investigators are currently examining the video’s origins and its distribution prior to its release on social media in September-October 2023. The video was uploaded using anonymous accounts, complicating the investigation.
Legal Context and Next Steps
A connection has been established between the procurement of the device and a suspect arrested in the National Capital Region. Preliminary investigations suggest that this individual, linked to the creation of social media content, may have political ties in New Delhi.
Alva’s involvement has led to a court injunction preventing media organizations from disseminating or discussing the implicated video. Siddaramaiah has explicitly named her in connection with these allegations, further complicating the narrative.
