XRP Soars as Ripple and Coinbase Forge Partnership for RLUSD
XRP surged to $1.33 on Wednesday, bolstered by a new partnership agreement between Ripple and Coinbase aimed at enhancing access to Ripple USD (RLUSD), the two companies announced in an official release.
The announcement sparked a notable increase in market activity, with reports indicating a 30% rise in trading volume over the past 24 hours, alongside transaction values exceeding $2 billion.
Details of the Partnership
Ripple, a prominent player in blockchain solutions, and Coinbase, a leading digital asset exchange, have collaborated to facilitate the trading and management of RLUSD on Coinbase’s platforms. Users can now convert U.S. dollars and other USD-denominated stablecoins directly into RLUSD on Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange, and the Coinbase Retail app.
Coinbase Global Exchange customers will also benefit from this feature, which includes the option to utilize RLUSD as collateral.
Market Demand for Stablecoins
“The institutional demand for compliant and high-quality stablecoins is evident,” stated Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of Stablecoins at Ripple. He emphasized that the partnership addresses this demand by making RLUSD accessible through established platforms.
“By integrating RLUSD into Coinbase, we’re catering to the largest institutional client base within the U.S. crypto market, offering a seamless experience for execution, settlement, and custody,” added McDonald.
Broader Access and Utility for RLUSD
As part of the partnership, there will be support for deposits and withdrawals on multiple blockchain platforms including XRPL, Base, and Ethereum. This development will provide users with enhanced flexibility in moving RLUSD throughout various ecosystems, with Ripple ensuring liquidity on Base to support RLUSD’s expansion.
Since its introduction in December 2024, RLUSD has achieved a market capitalization exceeding $2.4 billion, reflecting its increasing acceptance in exchanges, institutional markets, and on-chain finance. The ongoing integrations are set to broaden RLUSD’s utility in spot trading, institutional prime brokerage, derivatives, and decentralized finance (DeFi).
Characteristics of RLUSD
RLUSD stands out as a regulated and enterprise-grade stablecoin, redeemable for U.S. dollars and backed by reserves such as U.S. dollar deposits and short-term U.S. Treasuries. Its design emphasizes transparency, trustworthiness, and institutional applicability.
Market Reactions and Future Outlook
McDonald will be joining Brett Tejpaul, Co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, at the Ripple Swell conference in New York City on October 28, where they’ll discuss the future of institutional stablecoin adoption.
XRP’s price gain appears to be partly influenced by a broader recovery in Bitcoin, which is attributed to renewed inflows into spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and anticipatory positioning ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates.
The price movements of XRP corresponded closely with Bitcoin’s incremental rise of 0.66%, further underscoring the interconnected dynamics within the crypto market. Notably, Bitcoin saw a second day of net inflows, totaling $176 million on October 27, contributing to the overall increase in market capitalization.
Technical Analysis of XRP
From a technical perspective, XRP is currently testing the upper boundary of a descending channel, approaching the 50% Fibonacci retracement level near $1.34, recognized as a significant resistance point. The significant spike in trading volume indicates heightened interest among buyers at this price level.
While the surrounding sentiment has generated buzz, XRP has yet to confirm a steady breakout. A critical threshold remains a 4-hour close above $1.34, which would validate a breakout from the existing bearish channel.
The immediate market trajectory for XRP hinges on two pivotal factors: the outcome of the Federal Reserve’s rate decision—an outcome widely anticipated to be a hold—and the resistance range between $1.34 and $1.38.
If XRP manages to sustain its position above $1.34 with supportive volume following the announcement, upward targets could potentially rise to $1.40 and $1.50. Conversely, a rejection at this resistance level may lead to a retreat toward the critical support at $1.26 established in October.
