Wave of Bomb Threats Disrupts European Flights
Numerous bomb threats targeting flights across Europe have raised concerns and prompted investigations as airlines scramble to ensure passenger safety. On Friday morning, these threats culminated in urgent security responses, impacting several flights across various routes.
Key Incidents Reported
A Ryanair flight traveling from Rome to Lisbon was diverted to a security alert after authorities received an anonymous warning about a potential explosive device on board. The flight safely landed at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport shortly before 8 AM, where security teams began their investigations. As of now, no explosives have been confirmed on the aircraft.
According to CNN Portugal, a caller identifying as a “law enforcement officer” contacted the control tower in Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, leading to heightened security measures. Portugal’s Public Security Police (PSP) have been engaged in the investigation, but no further details have been made public regarding the identity of the caller.
Impact on Other Flights
The French Prime Minister’s office reported four additional bomb threats affecting flights operating over French airspace on the same day. All implicated aircraft were able to land safely, and security personnel are conducting thorough inspections as authorities seek to trace the origin of these threats.
Furthermore, a Wizz Air flight en route from Prague to Rome was also affected, resulting in its diversion to Venice for precautionary checks.
Ongoing Investigations
These incidents follow a series of bomb threats that disrupted at least 25 flights throughout Europe on the previous Thursday. EU officials have stated that it remains premature to ascertain whether these events are interconnected, but they signify rising tensions regarding air travel security.
While authorities continue to address these alarming threats, passengers and airline staff are encouraged to remain vigilant as investigations proceed across the continent.
