North Korea Dismisses US Dialogue Amid Crypto Heist Allegations
Published on November 4, 2026
In a significant escalation of tensions, North Korea has launched multiple missiles into the Sea of Japan. This action comes in the wake of North Korea’s strong denial regarding its involvement in a massive cyber theft estimated at more than $6 billion from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
Missile Launch Details
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that several missiles were detected launched from the Sondok area on North Korea’s eastern coast. This marks North Korea’s fourth missile test in a single month.
Authorities in both South Korea and the United States are currently analyzing the specifics of these missile launches.
Allegations of Cyber Theft
On the same day as the missile tests, North Korea vehemently rejected claims made by the FBI that it conducted the Binance hack, calling the accusations a “trite provocation.”
Binance, recognized as the largest cryptocurrency exchange globally, revealed that this cyber theft is the largest in the history of cryptocurrencies. The FBI attributed the hacking to a group known as TraderTraitor, which is also linked to a previous incident involving a $1.5 billion theft from the Bybit exchange.
Comments from Kim Yo Jong
Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, responded to the allegations by rejecting any possibility of dialogue with the US until Washington abandons its “hostile policy.” She stated, “It is our clear stand that we have no need to sit face to face with such unreliable and hostile persons,” emphasizing that while peace includes dialogue, it does not align with North Korea’s national interests.
US-North Korea Diplomacy Overview
US President Donald Trump has expressed intentions to rekindle discussions with Kim Jong Un later this year, building on relationships forged during his previous administration. Trump asserted the importance of maintaining a cooperative relationship with Kim, noting that North Korea possesses 57 “very powerful” nuclear weapons.
Recent diplomatic efforts have stalled, particularly following talks in 2019 that ended abruptly due to disagreements over nuclear disarmament. In October, leaders from the US, South Korea, and Japan reiterated their demand for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, coinciding with North Korea’s intensified missile testing this year.
North Korea’s Recent Weapons Testing
The series of missile tests, including the deployment of submarine-launched ballistic missiles and hypersonic technology, highlights North Korea’s aim to enhance its military capabilities. On Tuesday, the country claimed to have successfully tested a new cluster warhead for its strategic cruise missiles, capable of devastating a large area with “high-density power.”
Kim Jong Un has also recently inspected a naval shipyard focused on enhancing North Korea’s maritime strength, underscoring the regime’s commitment to expanding its naval capabilities.
