Jason Calacanis Urges Bitcoin Investors to Shift Focus to AI

In a recent statement, technology investor and podcast host Jason Calacanis advised cryptocurrency founders and Bitcoin holders to redirect their investments towards artificial intelligence (AI). This shift comes in the wake of his predictions regarding Bitcoin’s future performance.

Bitcoin’s Market Outlook

On October 24, 2023, Calacanis expressed skepticism about Bitcoin, predicting that its value would drop to $57,000 within the next year and suggesting that it may never achieve its previous all-time highs. This forecast reflects a significant decline of approximately 28% from Bitcoin’s trading value of around $79,600 at that time, as reported by CoinDesk.

Declining Relevance

Calacanis mentioned that Bitcoin has “lost the crowd,” indicating a change in investor sentiment which allows Bitcoin holders to disengage without fearing ridicule. He further emphasized that the cryptocurrency lacks utility beyond serving as a store of value.

“Why put your resources into a dead network that offers nothing beyond a store of value?” he wrote on X.

Investors Encouraged to Pivot

In a bold recommendation, Calacanis urged investors to “sell and shift from Bitcoin to Super Intelligence,” highlighting the appeal of AI technologies as investment opportunities. He noted that numerous innovative avenues exist that could yield better returns than Bitcoin at this time.

Market Signals

Calacanis pointed to recent trends in Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as indicators of a potential decline in Bitcoin’s market presence. Reports from Farside Investors indicated that Bitcoin ETFs saw approximately $774 million in withdrawals over two days, which underscored concerns about diminishing investor interest. However, Monday saw a slight rebound with $110 million returning to the market.

Conclusion

As discussions surrounding the viability of Bitcoin versus emerging technologies like AI continue, Calacanis’s strong recommendations invite current investors to reconsider their holdings. Only time will reveal if this shift marks a significant change in the cryptocurrency landscape.
