Windows 11 Search Integrates Android Apps via Phone Link
Windows 11 has introduced an innovative feature in its taskbar Search that enables users to access applications installed on their Android devices directly from their PC. This integration simplifies workflow by providing a seamless way to launch Android apps alongside native Windows programs.
Accessing Android Apps through Windows Search
Upon testing the feature on a Surface Laptop running Windows 11 build 26340.9767, a user discovered that searching for the app “Bluesky” resulted in its listing as a “Mobile App” from a paired Samsung device. By clicking “Open,” the app launched on the smartphone and mirrored onto the computer via the Phone Link application, showcasing a well-synchronized experience between devices.

Mirroring Capabilities of Phone Link
With this new functionality, the interaction with Android apps feels much more intuitive. The user simply types the application name and can immediately access it without having to navigate through the Phone Link interface first. Selecting the app results in it being mirrored on the PC screen, retaining functionality from the mobile device while using a larger display, keyboard, and mouse for enhanced usability.

Official Confirmation from Microsoft
Microsoft has officially acknowledged this feature as part of the new Windows Search capabilities. The company confirmed that, along with app launching, users could make calls, send texts, and use the Do Not Disturb feature directly from the PC when paired with a compatible smartphone.
Compatibility and Future Developments
The integration of Android apps through Windows Search is compatible with select devices. Microsoft specifies that devices must meet specific requirements, including having Link to Windows preinstalled and running Android version 10 or later. The full feature set, including app mirroring, will be gradually rolled out to all users over time, with ongoing improvements expected.
In essence, Microsoft’s initiative to bridge the gap between Windows and Android offers a novel approach to multitasking, further enhancing the user experience. This feature aligns closely with the seamless integration often touted by Apple users regarding their ecosystem.
