Upcoming iPad Updates: What to Expect in 2026
After unveiling the updated iPad mini featuring OLED technology recently, Apple is set to enhance its iPad lineup further in the first half of 2026. A new iPad Air, base iPad, and a revamped iPad Pro are among the anticipated releases, according to Bloomberg’s tech analyst Mark Gurman.
iPad Air
The next iteration of the iPad Air is expected to embrace OLED technology, following the recent iPad mini’s lead. While it will likely retain a 60Hz refresh rate and continue using Touch ID instead of transitioning to Face ID, this upgrade signifies a substantial enhancement for the iPad Air, which has not seen significant revisions since 2020.
The device may also feature an upgraded M5 chip, progressing from the M4. However, this improvement could come at a higher price point, with estimates for the starting cost of the 11-inch model ranging between $799 and $899.
Base iPad
In 2026, Apple plans to refresh the base iPad for the first time since early 2025. This new version is likely to integrate the A19 chip alongside 8GB of RAM, which would enable support for Apple Intelligence. Enhancements in networking are expected through the inclusion of the N1 chip and the C1X modem.
While no major changes to the screen or overall design are expected, the possibility of new color options may still attract buyers.
iPad Pro
The forthcoming iPad Pro will reportedly incorporate a vapor chamber cooling system, a feature previously introduced in the iPhone 17 Pro. Aside from this, a new chipset—likely the M6 or potentially M7—is expected to be introduced.
Despite these enhancements, it is hoped that Apple will unveil more significant changes as it will have been nearly three years since the last substantial update. The starting price for the iPad Pro remains substantial, with the 11-inch model priced at $1,199 and the 13-inch variant at $1,499.
