New iPad Mini: OLED Display Without ProMotion Support
Display Features
The recently announced iPad mini comes equipped with an OLED display, significantly enhancing visual quality compared to its predecessor that featured an LCD. However, one notable limitation is the absence of ProMotion technology, which restricts the refresh rate to 60Hz; this differs from the capabilities of the iPad Pro, where ProMotion enables variable refresh rates up to 120Hz based on the content displayed.

Expert Commentary
David Pakula, Apple’s vice president of hardware design, shared insights on the new display during an interview with YouTuber Christopher Lawley. He pointed out that although ProMotion is not featured, the OLED technology greatly improves the display’s pixel response time, yielding a smoother viewing experience.
“Display experience is about more than just a single spec,” said Pakula. “One of the things that’s really cool about OLED is it actually has this really fast pixel response time. So it’s like more than an order of magnitude faster than the pixel response time for an LCD display. And what that does is it makes everything really smooth. Motion blur is significantly reduced compared to LCD. When you pair that with the other things that I mentioned, the contrast, the brightness, and the color, this is just a killer display.”
Technical Specifications
Apple has indicated that the new iPad mini can reach a maximum brightness of 600 nits for standard content, an improvement from the previous model’s 500 nits. Furthermore, it can achieve up to 1,200 nits for HDR content, enhancing overall visual fidelity. The device features a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, and maintains a resolution of 326 pixels per inch, alongside P3 wide color support.
Availability and Pricing
The new iPad mini is currently available for pre-order, starting at a price of $699 in the U.S. The official launch date is set for November 6, 2026, allowing consumers to soon experience its new features and advancements.
